47th Annual Cameron House Guild Membership Tea

The Donaldina Cameron House will be holding their 47th annual Cameron House Guild Membership Tea on Monday, February 24th. If you don’t already belong, the membership fee is 20 dollars and will be used to support the wonderful work the Cameron House does in providing faith based support to Asian women and their families in the San Francisco area. You can check out the announcement and payment info here.

The Cameron House was started by the Presbyterian Church as a home for girls in 1874 with the aim to rescue Asian immigrants smuggled into the United States. Miss Donaldina Cameron originally worked at the mission as a sewing teacher and ended up staying on for 40 years as she fought to protect Asian women from violence and abuse. Today, the Cameron House offers a wide variety of social programs and services. You can find further information on their website.

For a look at how the Cameron House has changed the lives of women in the San Francisco Bay area, you can check out Bamboo Women. Written by Nona Mock Wyman, the book tells stories of the women Nona grew up with at Ming Quong, an orphanage run by the Cameron House.
